The July issue of eHealthcare Strategy and Trends magazine features an article that looks behind the curtain of Web form submissions and describes how to ensure the information submitted is secure. The article was written by Imaginary Landscape managing partner Brian Moloney.
"The moment a user presses the submit button, form information vanishes," said Moloney. "It is at that very moment where security is likely to break down."
A key sign of poor security is the method of notification. "If you are receiving an e-mail that contains submitted Web form information, that is not secure."
Not all forms need to be secure, however if the context of the form might draw out sensitive information it is better to err on the side of security. "There is much more to it than a gold lock icon in the corner of your browser."
